I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our runners, volunteers and sponsors who came out for the 2010 MOM 5k Race in Sag Harbor this past Saturday. Despite the on and off rain, 236 runners crossed the line and at this point, it looks like we have raised over $12,000, all of which will go towards GLK’s yearly goal of $50,000. All donations will help fund our three year $75,000 commitment to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, GLK’s annual caregiver grant, and scholarships at Pierson High School and Pace University’s School of Nursing. It is because of all of you that GLK and MINDS OVER MATTER are able to continue our journey in finding a cure for brain tumors. Thank you again to Laurie DeVito and her 4th grade art class for designing the 2010 race t-shirt where “Everyone’s A Winner!” Jordan (my sister) and I had a great time at Sag Harbor Elementary’s Morning Sing this past Friday and we hope to make the MOM 5k t-shirt design an island-wide competition from now on each year!

The 7th Annual MINDS OVER MATTER Sag Harbor 5k Run will take place Saturday May 8, 2010 at 8:30am. As always, the race benefits The Gwen L. Kosinski Foundation ~ Benefiting Brain Tumor Research (GLKF). Since 2002, GLKF and its running club MINDS OVER MATTER have raised approximately $450,000 towards brain tumor research at leading cancer centers in the United States. Most recently, a grant of $75,000 was awarded to Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center in NYC to combat the reoccurrence of high grade brain tumors. Each year GLKF also continues to award academic scholarships to deserving students entering health related fields and provides assistance to brain tumor patients and their families. It is because of your ongoing generosity and support that GLKF continues to grow and enable us to help so many.

This year, we ask that you GO GREEN and sign up online at our race website glk.kintera.org and create your own sponsorship webpage to help GLKF raise additional monies to combat this devastating disease. The highest fundraisers for March and April will be awarded $100.00 American Express Gift Cards and the participant who raises the most money overall will receive an IPOD Touch courtesy of GLKF. Running t-shirts are guaranteed to all participants who register by April 15th.

In years past this race has brought in over 500 runners and each year our numbers continue to grow.
